 "Very Nice!" 2009-11-06
By tompa_photo (Dallas, Texas)
Yeah, it was a little more expensive than some of the other options... But I'm putting it on a $500 lens. I want the pictorial results to be as good as the lens is expensive. It makes sense to put the best protection on the lens.

 "Excellent lens protector!" 2009-09-26
By V. Nguyen (San Jose, CA USA)
I have not found any color distortions to my images so far on a Nikon D90. I think it's more of a lens protector than a filter since it doesn't do UV filtering. But, I bought it because I wanted it do just that - to protect my original lenses from scratches and dust. The ring is thin, so it hugs close to the original lens and doesn't affect the field of view. Or at least I didn't notice it. The ring is metal and sturdy, too.

There is one thing I do wonder about. Since the ring is some type of metal and the filter is glass, does it induce static? I use a lens brush, and several times I noticed that after brushing the filter and blowing at the same time, I still see a few tiny dust particles that won't get off the filter. But after I stop brushing, wait a few seconds, and then blow again, the particles finally lift off and go away. Would be nice if they made these filters static-resistent, too.

Quality wise, this thing gets 5 stars. But only because of the price, I'm giving it 4. I do wish the price was cheaper. But then again, perhaps you get what you pay for. Still, I wish it was cheaper:)

I'm a newbie to SLR's and came across several reviewers who said that this protection filter was worth the money for the Nikon 18-200mm lens. So far it's been excellent -- at least for my peace of mind. Sturdy construction. Distortion free. Tested it against different backgrounds without any hint of yellow. Pictures shot with my D90 and Nikon 18-200mm lens look the same with and without the filter to my untrained eyes. I'd say that this protection filter was worth the money. Shipping time was reasonable, about on par with most merchants on Amazon.

"Very pleased with the purchase" 2009-06-21
By A. S. Donnelly (Denver, CO)
The build quality and clear (non-tinted), visibly neutral color of the Nikon NC filters remind me of the Heliopan Slim Version filters I own.

The Nikon NC is *not* a UV filter, but digital sensors are not sensitive to UV light. A UV filter is not needed. From a functional standpoint the Nikon NC performs the same as a UV filter.

I am very pleased with the purchase and would not hesitate to recommend them to friends and others.

 "Heavyweight Glasses" 2009-10-11
By Flat_Tire (Washington State, USA)
I think the optics are good, although I have noticed some color aberrations -- color tinges that shouldn't be present on the edges of things.

Weight is an issue, and they're bigger than other glasses people use. Backpackers won't like them for those reasons. I don't even take them on day hikes. I often go out with birdwatchers; they comment that the optics are good, although not equal to glasses in the $500+ category. But they wouldn't buy glasses that heavy because your arms start to shake when you hold that much weight up to your eyes for minutes at a time, as birdwatchers do.

On the other hand, they look durable. I think that if you want good optics, not necessarily great optics, and can deal with the weight and size, these are a super value.

By Bruce A. Connan (Indianapolis, Indiana)
We used these binoculars for a week on a trip to the UP of Michigan for scenery, watching freighters on Lake Superior and a few birds. They have very sharp focus and very clear. The weight was no problem. They work great with glasses however I find it easier to lift my glasses up and then use the binoculars. That is just personal. I have nothing but good to say about them. I had cheap Bushnell's and there is no comparison.

After much research we chose Nikon action 12X50. Our old binoculars were Bushnell 10X50. So I guess we thought more is better...well it is a bit better. Our eyes are getting older and it is a treat to see a long distance. These are great for the price. A little large maybe, but we were use to it.

 "Great binoculars!" 2009-06-05
By Keith D. Wiley (Fort Dodge, IA)
This is for the Nikon Action 12x50 binoculars. I am not a hard-core bird watcher, nor do I hold myself out to be overly knowledgeable about binoculars. I use binoculars to look at the landscape and wildlife in my backyard and on vacations -- at distances from 20ft. to approx. 1 mile. My previous binoculars were an old (probably 15 years old) pair of 10x50 Bushnells.

After reading hundreds of reviews here at Amazon, and googling and reading binocular reviews at other sites, I bought these Nikons. They are much better than the old Bushnells I have! I would imagine that a new pair of Bushnells would also be better than my old ones, due to technological progress, so I realize it's not exactly an apples to apples comparison.

After reading reviews and giving thought to how I use binoculars, I decided to go with the Nikons. My only dilemma was whether to get the 10x or the 12x. The hesitation came from other reviewers stating that with anything over 10x, you wouldn't be able to hold it steady enough and may need a tripod. I have not had that problem, and am extremely glad that I went with the 12x. I notice no difference in being able to steady them from the old 10x.

 "Bird watching and astronomy" 2009-06-01
By D. Borrego (Michigan)
Good quality binoculars for the price. They give very sharp images when bird watching or stargazing. I have a pair of 15x70's and these smaller ones put it to shame. The field of view is generous considering the 10x magnification and the distortion around the edges isn't even noticeable unless you deliberately look for it.

I used to use the 15x70's for watching raptors in flight but since these are lighter and give better views the 15x70's are just collecting dust.

"Speedy point and shoot camera!" 2009-11-03
By Regan Cheng (CA, USA)
I have been looking for a compact all around point and shoot camera for awhile now. I have used multiple cameras in the last few months, and I think I have found my favorite. I'm not an expert in terms of color reproduction, or other details aspects of the final photo, but I don't see much to complain about in terms of photo quality.

PROS:

Ultra fast focus. This baby can focus and lock on in < 1 sec. This ensure that you'll be able to capture those timeless moments in a blink of an eye.

Fast startup. The startup of 0.7s is true, BUT only if you are in Auto Mode and Single Shot mode with AF/Center Focus. If you are in another mode or continuous/BSS, face detect, the camera takes almost 5 seconds before you can take your first show. Although I'm a little bit disapointed that the startup of the camera is limited to a very specific mode, I use Auto/Single/AF 99% of the time so I'm not too concerned.

Easy, intuitive controls. I didn't have to read the manual, and I can get around easily.'

High ISO modes, up to 6400. Although I would not recommend anything greater than 800 (or even 400 if you can help it), just have a capability just in case is nice.

Fast 5x wide angle lens. This lens has a pretty standard wide angle lens, 28mm, but the nice thing is that is also a fast lens - maximum aperture of 2.7. Helps a bit in low light. 5x is more than what basic P&S have (usually 3x).

Extremely compact and solid. Its pretty small, but still has a good feel in your hand. Easily slips into your pocket.

CONS

Picture quality is just SO-SO. There hasn't been many compact 12mp P&S that excel in picture quality. While its not terrible, its not something to be excited about. Its comparable to any of the SD800-SD960, SD1200 cameras.

ISO800 is barely usable, and anything above that I don't recommend. Of course, I've been spoiled by DSLRs, but I was hoping for better.

Battery drains pretty quickly. I don't get the 200+ shots that Nikon says I can get. I get maybe 100? Of course, I use flash sometimes, I replay the photo's quite a bit, turn it on/off a lot. Maybe that 270 shots per battery is 270 continuous shots? I don't know. Get a second one in my opinion.

This camera takes a while to write to the SD flash card. On my previous Canon SD800 and Panasonic ZR1, I was able to take a picture, and flip it to the playback mode instantly. Now, it takes about 1.5 seconds to write to the card, before I can enable the playback mode. Slightly annoying.

So, who is this camera for? Its for the amateur photographer who needs a fast, compact, basic Point and Shoot that will get the job done. I would recommend this over the Canon SD1200, SD800-SD960. But, because of the wide angle and fast shooting capability, you will be able to take quick shots which usually lead to more keeper photo's.

 "Nikon Coolpix S640 Camera" 2009-11-01
By C. Kocmoud (Chicago Il)
I bought my Nikon S640 pocket digital camera after I dropped my Olympus pocket camera and broke it this summer. I was an avid Cannon and Olympus fan and finally decided to try a Nikon this time after reading some of the online reviews before the launch of this camera in the market in Sept 2009. I must say, this is by far, the BEST pocket camera I have ever owned! The pictures are consistently crisp with vibrant colors in any setting and that is using only the AUTO feature for settings. I took the camera to Paris in Oct and took many night shots -- all with no flash , and only had 4 out of 125 that I had to delete because they were too blurry to use. The high ISO (6400) in low light is a real differentiator for this camera. I also liked the fast shutter lag between startup and first pic as well as between pics. Its a bit longer if using the flash, but overall, much improved over my Olympus. I have a Cannon digital Rebel 5MP that I used to consider my favorite / BEST camera for special occasion photography, but now I think I can easily consider my new Nikon the BEST for ANY occasion. I Highly recommend this camera.

"You get what you pay for." 2009-04-01

I was really surprised at how good this tripod actually is for such a cheap price. You get what you pay for, and I think this is pretty quality for about [...] bucks. If anything it would make a great back up/emergency tripod. Everything works on it so far, no problems. It's pretty steady, and easily holds the weight of my Nikon D40.

 "Tripod Review" 2009-03-14
By Valerie Garner
Although this tripod is functional, the term "you get what you pay for" comes to mind. I did really like the bubble level it had. But it was a bit frustrating for me to use as it seemed awkward at times and difficult to make minor adjustments without going through many steps. It also had a flimsy feel to it and many times if someone walked nearby when I was using it, I had camera shake.

My 4 year old grandson accidentally broke it after owning it only 2 months. It was bent right in the middle of one of the metal legs, and this child was not being overly rough.

My recommendation would be to skip this one, and upgrade to a higher quality tripod. I would have saved money in the long run if I had done that from the beginning.

By William M. Lax
Insten Battery Charger: The charger takes about 2.5 - 2.6 hrs. to charge a dead EN-EL9 battery...as advertized. The charger is compact and more suitable for travel than the standard Sony charger since there are no wires for its hook-up. Lights on the charger (one yellow, the other red) are confusing since red appears to mean that the charger is working, however, the yellow burns only until the battery is fully charged. To verify this, I placed the battery on the Sony charger and sure enough...it registered fully charged. Who knows, maybe the design engineer was color-blind?

This is a very nice charger. I keep this plugged into the wall and have stored the clumsy cord/charger that came with my D40.

This eliminates having yet ANOTHER cord cluttering up my counter (already have cell-phone, camcorder, mp3 player charger cables).

This is much easier to travel with and fits in my backpack easily.

"great, inexpensive nikon battery charger!" 2009-05-29
By C. Boursiquot (Boston, MA)
I was worried that I was getting a piece of crap charger, but to my surprise the product works GREAT! I have used it for over two months now and it hasn't given me any probelems at all. I needed to buy a charger for my nikon d40 camera batteries, but didn't want to spend a ridiculous $[...] on the nikon brand charger, so I browsed Amazon and found this little item.

My only complaint/concern is that the company didn't provide warrenty info or even a user manual. However, the charger has been working flawlessly thus far and it's so easy to use, just flip the prongs down, insert the battery, and plug it to the wall. Fully charges within a few hours. For the amount of money I would spend on a nikon charger, I could've bought a dozen of these! A great charger for a fraction of the price.

I rate this product four out of five stars. It loses one star because I wanted the peace of mind of having warrenty documents coming along with the charger, but still this is one of the best deals I ever got for a camera accessory, and I'm really happy with it. Thanks Amazon!
